A patient-specific 3D-printed model of the brain has been shown to be a potentially useful tool for discussing epilepsy surgery with pediatric patients and their families, researchers reported at AES 2018.
The specialists at the Nationwide Children’s Hospital in Columbus, Ohio, USA, developed a system for creating a personalized functional-anatomic model of the brain, based on an individual patient’s scans performed as part of routine care.
The models were evaluated for their use as an educational tool about surgical options, benefits and risks for children with medically intractable epilepsy and their families/carers.
