  • Statin treatment may reduce the accrual of covert MRI markers of ischemic cerebral injury.

Why this matters

Although statins have proven benefits in primary and secondary ischemic stroke prevention, their effects on cerebral ischemic injury are unknown. These findings suggest that the reduction in the buildup of covert brain infarcts can be added to the potential benefits of statin use.
