Ultrasound guided glossopharyngeal nerve block in Eagle Syndrome

  • In patients with Eagle syndrome (ES), ultrasound guided glossopharyngeal nerve block reduces pain and increases quality of life for at least 1 week post block compared with landmark glossopharyngeal nerve block.

Why this matters

  • Current treatment options for ES include pain medications and glossopharyngeal nerve block (GPNB).

  • In other chronic pain conditions, ultrasound guided nerves blocks show advantages over landmark techniques, however, ultrasound use in ES has not been investigated.
